Science with Ms. Davis

In June 2012 another group of Berwick students will travel to Louisville for the Berwick Buddy Camp here.  More information on the camp soon!

The Berwick Buddy program started in the fall of 2007.  Ms. Rachel Davis of Lassiter Middle School and Mme. Dana Clinton of Berwick Academy, South Berwick, ME, collaborated to begin a pen pal program between the students on the Rainforest (then Cheetah) team and the "upper school" students at Berwick Academy.  Students are assigned a "Berwick Buddy" and participate in four letter exchanges a year, all of which are coordinated by Ms. Davis at no cost to the students.

Every summer there is a week-long environmental summer camp that involves both Lassiter and Berwick students.  The location alternates every year between Louisville and Maine/New Hampshire, each school taking turns at hosting the camp.  Lassiter hosted the first camp in June 2008.  Students built ponds, gardens, and a patio in the school's backyard, and they also went on a canoe trip down the Salt River.  In June 2009 Berwick Academy hosted the camp, coordinated by Mrs. Jen Onken. 12 Lassiter students made the trip to Maine along with Ms. Davis, Mrs. Thomas, and Mr. Roberts. Check out the "Lassiter in Maine" blog.  In June 2010, 10 Berwick Buddies came to Louisville, and with 21 Lassiter students we went camping, toured the government center, and visited Kentucky Horse Park and the Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital, among other things.  In June 2011, 12 Lassiter students traveled to Maine for the camp, and activities included camping, surfing, and visiting the Museum of Science in Boston as well as the Witch Dungeon Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
